You're shifting the context of the 'laying on hands' moment. In the Bible it is not a sign of approval by colleagues, but a transmission. Note Deut. 34:9:

"Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. "

Then Acts 8:17:

"Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit."

Jesus seems be physically touched as "power" flows into the one touching him.
