Christian men aren’t happy with me?
My post about Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings not being Christian made a lot of Christian men even angrier. I like to keep track. Calling me a “fool,” one of them wrote a reply to my article on his website. I left a comment…which he deleted.
Many YouTube videos reply to my post. My favorite shows the host of the Through the Keyhole podcast rather distraught.
The Tolkien Road podcast did a critique video, as did a woman called ‘an elf friend’ (part 1 and 2).
And ‘Just Some Guy’ did a treatment that, at present, has 94k views. He knows his audience, I’ll give him that. He calls me a “retard” and proceeds to list the “correspondences” between the Bible and Tolkien’s stories.
I couldn’t wait.
These are the ones he mentions:
- In LOTR, the Elves have ‘lembas bread’ which sort of vaguely resembles the Bible’s manna…or the Catholic Eucharist.
- The Silmarillion has a character named ‘Melkor’ who resembles the Catholic ‘Satan’…a little bit?
- The Silmarillion has a deity named ‘Eru Ilúvatar’ creating the world, and this is basically the Bible’s God…with a lot of changes.
- LOTR has no prayers but…
