With all respect, I am not sure "don't be a dick" functions as an even practical ethic. Sometimes you do have to be a dick—during impregnation, for example.

Jesus calls on followers to "love one another"—a possibility not included in your idea of "don't be a dick." You call for an ethic of politeness or non-harm.

Jesus' standard is much higher.
