What storyline couldn't be read as "kinda sorta quasi-Christian"?

I mean, the Nancy Drew books could be read as Christian. A cookbook could be read as Christian.

The effort to find a Christian text in LOTR strikes me as owing entirely to the wish to somehow fold it into Christian culture.

There's been a lot of talk about a religious rift between Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, but Walter Hooper denied it ever existed. I'm thinking all that was conjured by Evangelicals who wanted to find the great Lewis having to shame the Catholic Tolkien—whose works were read, even so, as "kinda sorta" Christian.
