Well thanks so much. Isn’t “God” like “Mom”- so simple, with that ‘o’ keeping things moving along. With the word ‘holy’ I wonder if we do imagine ‘hole’ with the idea of spirituality as penetration or puncture. I think of Bernini’s Ecstasy of Saint Teresa as a guide here.

But I was getting the feeling you see the Jews as a nationalistic unity rooted in some concept of ethnicity? I just did an article on the use of black people in the Bible, and have been mulling Exodus 12:38 (“Many other people went up with them”).

I haven’t followed the references to know if ‘Israelite’ was a specific genetic profile or a kind of ‘melting pot’. Were people of many ethnicities understood to be receiving the Sinai revelation? I’m not sure I know at present.
