Well, I'm not sure sacred texts need to be ranked or diminished. I don't insult the Vedas or the Diamond Sutra, etc. They may well represent the thinking of spirits or deities, I wouldn't know.

What's clear is that later Christian readers imposed their own cultural imperatives on the Bible. It could've been done to any text, and with the same result.
