Tolkien was not a devout Catholic. He was socially Catholic after his mother's example and would privately confide that he had no Catholic belief at all. I covered this in my post on Tolkien's belief in reincarnation.

Your "doubts" concerning his views on sex are just shadows cast by a basically ignorant mind.
