To persecute people for sex is such an absurd reading of the Jesus story. Laughable.

I think it was all the logic of colonialism. As John Boswell pointed out, Christianity wasn't so anti-gay throughout the Middle ages.

But Europe was too small and after a lot of infighting, its leaders realized they could go colonize the globe. They needed more white people.

Maybe 20% of the population, I suspect, is flexible on whether they'd want to have kids. Maybe higher. Religion was the instrument of making everyone have kids. 100% reproductivity.

More white people vs. brown people. That's all it was.
