Graham seems to have been left behind by the fierce Moral Majority types, not getting his hands dirty in the trenches, fighting for Christian America.
He became a suspect moderate, for sure. And to hold off their critique of him he might well have articulated a non-political Evangelicalism, which he had not previously believed in. Graham had an ongoing close relationship with the George H.W. Bush family, and I suspect that was his preferred political lineage.
The chapter I'm particularly fascinated in is when Graham was fading in the late 1990s and the battle was on for his succession.
