Thanks! You know, I think the Bible narrates a similar process—of humans acquiring "self-control" from deities that originally controlled them.

This seems to be on view when Jesus speaks to the Jewish leaders in John 8:44:

"You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires."

Also of note, Jesus rebuking the disciples in the Bezae Codex Luke 9:55: "You know not of what spirit you are."

Really the Bible's narrative is of artificial bodies created (from earth or 'clay'), being originally controlled, then becoming autonomous.
