Thanks, yes the whole Bible might rely on an association of gods with husbands. As Christians like to dismiss such talk as 'metaphoric', that may be unwarranted. I've been tracing some edges of the idea, as here:

I noticed the 'five husbands = five gods' idea in Brant Pitre's book 'Jesus the Bridegroom', which traces back to Sandra Schneiders' The Revelatory Text, and she gets it from a 1962 journal article by John Bligh, "Jesus in Samaria".
