Thanks so much, insightful as always. That was a very unusual expression of any emotion on Betty's part. I may wait a bit, but do a mega-post on the circumstances around the massacre in 1956. One odd feature is how Betty seems not grieved at all. Keeps saying it's God's will etc.

The folder of Van's correspondence has a final entry of 1972, what looks to be a small note attached to a present given at Christmas. The note reads:
