Thanks Jessica. It feels so familiar to dip into Psalm 91.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

The theological situation of ancient Israel was completely different. Their largest job was to produce the messiah. When Jesus was born, Christians barely noticed. They wanted some dramatic fantasy of being bold warriors, besieged and guarded by angels! I’m David today!

Jesus’ teachings are prompts, in contrast, to “love one another” (Jn 13:34), an activity of continuous outreach happening between humans. Those hiding or fighting aren’t, perhaps, doing it very well.
