Thanks. Elisabeth Elliot majored in Greek at Wheaton, and P.B.I. was vocational training for foreign missions. She was planning to be a missionary translator, because women weren't to give the gospel even. These were people who saw pastoral work or evangelizing as a male activity.

I haven't done an in-depth study of this question but I don't know of an Evangelical seminary that admitted women until the 1970s. Dallas Theological Seminary admitted women in 1974.
