Semantics is "the meaning of something" and is a common term in religious studies.

What I'm guessing you mean is that you prefer to consider word choices irrelevant in view of the opportunity to define Evangelicalism as a "cult"—since it just feels good to stigmatize an enemy.

Except you’d then be defining any religion as a "cult," including Islam, Buddhism, etc., which does violence to the experience of actual cult members.
