Real interesting, thanks. In retrospect the guy in the hospital was doing amazingly well!!—cast as the villain of a theological system, his cure monetized by quack psychiatry, monsters in white coats, he was accurately diagnosing his entire world wanting him dead.

But the poignance of the story is that "science" did show an interest in gay people,-- and that might often have been closeted gays using their positions to do basic research into what they themselves were. I strongly suspect Havelock Ellis, for example, was gay.
