I've been thinking about your point about Mary the mother of Jesus being held out to Christian women as a model of sexual integrity. I can't think of anywhere else in the Bible that virginity is identified as a positive state, and there's no instruction at all to be a virgin when married, so I'm not sure why that one narrative would be an example of that idea.-- but I know Christians will fiercly contest the point.
