As Grimes wrote, the Scofield Bible is a theological system that caters to white Southern Christians—rejecting racial reconciliation, rejecting Reconstruction, withdrawing into white-only spaces they could keep segregated under the auspices of "religion" while waiting for white Jesus to come get them in the Rapture.

They didn't have to work for a better world, just watch for doomsday to approach and gloat that they were the only true Christians.
