In the Bible, repentance is a change in strategy and direction, and does not need to have self-reproach or self-critique loaded onto the concept.

The scholar I cite deals with these issues. "I agree that it is typically the case that if one repents, one believes that one did something wrong, but I doubt whether it is necessary to hold such a belief in order for one to repent."
