I don’t see how monogamy becomes an expression of "faith" and "promises." Monogamy was the official policy of Ancient Rome not to encourage equal partnerships and personhood but to goose the fertility rate. Put every woman to work breeding! A woman in a polygamous marriage might well have more options.
