Hey thanks, there's lots of information I'd throw into the mix. In the Bible, as throughout the prophetic books, marriage and divorce are metaphors for relationships between divinities and nations.
There's really not much focus on a "mystical union" of man and wife—that's all sort of dumb Christian stuff. Does Solomon have a mystical union with his 700 wives?
And lots of your specifics come from church culture and have no basis in fact—like Corinth having some special connection to sexual excess. A total myth, debunked by scholars, but perpetuated by churches.
