A very interesting question, thank you. Did you have any thoughts? I am sure Mister Rogers thought about such subjects, but it wasn’t his public message, as far as I can tell on a quick search.

So I’d just quickly note a New Testament reference that might apply.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. —Rom 8:38–39

Your question does prompt me to think about love being tough, and requiring justice. Jesus is severe on those who harm children, and this is not unloving. God is both loving and just.

But even in enforcing justice, violators can be understood as people in pain or given over to compulsions and evil influences, and still perhaps capable of contrition and modes of redemption, if only by confession.

Just some quick thoughts.
