A lot of famous texts, not just religious literature, claim to be written by God. When researching my recent article on John Mellencamp I saw him saying: “My best songs are just given to me from someplace outside myself,” which he goes on to suggest was God.

You might say his songs are not actually from God, but he does, and the Bible makes that claim for itself as well. How do I evaluate this situation?
